In May of 2020, a group of individuals and members of justice organizations came together to realize a shared interest in creating a bail fund. Coming from different walks of life and organizing principles, we all realized the urgent need to provide bail relief to those who cannot afford it. The rise of COVID-19 made this issue particularly urgent, as time awaiting trial in jail could have resulted in a death sentence. But even as COVID wanes, we continue this work because we've learned that helping folks avoid pre-trial detention is always a good way to keep our community housed, employed, and safe.
